Guimaras-native volleyball superstar Jovelyn Gonzaga will embark on a new journey after rendering her services to the young ZUS Coffee franchise for the upcoming Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino (PVL) Conference.
It was ZUS Coffee who proudly announced Gonzaga’s arrival, posting her photo on their various social media accounts with the caption: “Sergeant Thunder, Jovelyn Gonzaga, your new Thunderbelle.”
Gonzaga’s last stint in the PVL was during the 2023-2024 PVL season when she reinforced the Cignal HD Spikers.
However, Gonzaga had to sit out the 2024 PVL Reinforced and Invitational Conference due to her responsibilities for the Philippine Army.
After playing for several stacked franchises in her past years, her debut with ZUS Coffee will be an entirely different scenery as the team is yet to prove something in the PVL.
At the last conference, ZUS Coffee failed to register a single win, but Gonzaga’s arrival might change their fortunes as she will be teaming up with the first-ever lottery Rookie pick in the draft, middle blocker Thea Gagate.
Unlike Cignal where she could lean on several veterans, ZUS Coffee is mostly comprised of young rookies and newly minted players trying to prove their worth at the professional level.
Gonzaga is expected to become one of the franchise’s top scorers, and ZUS Coffee is also banking on her wealthy experience and winning resume.
So far, Gonzaga is the only big name that ZUS Coffee managed to sign for the All-Filipino Conference and upcoming trade proposals will follow when the PVL off-season preparations kick off.
