AN Ilongga teacher was named as finalists of the 2019 Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Filipinos.
The Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) made the announcement after months of thorough document review, background check, and verification of accomplishments in both professional and community service in the semi-final stage led by the Board of Assessors and third party validators.
The finalists include Dr. Dorothy Tarol, a teacher and guidance counselor of the Special Education-Integrated School for Exceptional Children in Iloilo City.
The other finalists from the basic education sector are Jennifer Cataluña, Teacher III from Tambo Central School (Iligan City); Amando Perfecto Molin, teacher and Science and Mathematics Coordinator from South Hill School, Inc. (Los Baños, Laguna); and Cristina Cristobal, Special Science Teacher V from Philippine Science High School Main Campus (Quezon City).
Meanwhile, teachers from higher education who made it to the semi-finals are Eva Maria Cutiongco-De La Paz of the University of the Philippines Manila (City of Manila); and Ricardo Jose of the University of the Philippines Diliman (Quezon City).
Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones expressed her gratitude to all the teachers who go the extra mile in serving the Filipino learners and giving them a chance at a brighter future: “Congratulations for making it this far and may you serve as an inspiration to our 800,000 teachers all over the country.”
Guided by the theme “Beyond Excellence,” the Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos are recognized for rendering service above and beyond their call of duty. Their accomplishments must have inspired and influenced their peers, as well as the people in their respective communities. Likewise, their works must have transformed a community with a lasting positive impact on people and the country.
A total of 18 finalists were selected among 240 nominations submitted for this year’s cycle. The finalists will then face the Final Board of Judges — a multi-sectoral jury — in a panel interview.
Of these 18 finalists, four teachers, three soldiers, and three police officers will be awarded as Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos who will each receive a cash prize of P1 million, a gold medallion, and a trophy during Metrobank’s 57th anniversary celebration in September.
