BACOLOD CITY – A newborn baby boy was found dead along the shoreline of Barangay Old Sagay, Sagay City, Negros Occidental yesterday morning.

The infant was wrapped in black cloth and placed inside an eco-bag and a box when found by a local resident.

Lieutenant Hannah Banquil, the deputy chief of Sagay City Police Station, said a medical doctor believed that the child had been dead for approximately three days.

The baby’s head was swollen, and he was still attached to the placenta and umbilical cord, Banquil noted.

Authorities have yet to determine whether the infant was alive or deceased at the time of abandonment.

Banquil believed that the infant might have succumbed to drowning before being carried to the location where he was found.

Banquil is now calling on the infant’s parents to come forward, offering them assistance. She also mentioned that the local barangay officials will be responsible for arranging the burial of the baby if the parents do not show up.
