BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) is investigating the death of a policeman who was found with a gunshot wound to the head in Isabela town on Dec. 27.
Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo, public information officer of Nocppo, said Police Col. Rainerio de Chavez, Nocppo director, has tasked the Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Unit (PIDMU) with conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
Initial reports indicated that the victim, a Police Staff Sgt., was discovered at the laundry area of his sibling’s house on Friday morning. Neighbors reportedly did not hear any gunshot, according to their statements.
Catalogo noted that the victim had attended a conference before returning home that day. Colleagues said the officer had not displayed any signs of distress or unusual behavior in the days leading up to the incident.
The victim underwent a paraffin test to determine if he had discharged his service-issued 9mm firearm.
“As of now, we cannot draw any conclusions while the investigation remains ongoing,” Catalogo added.
