INDANG, Cavite— Athletes from the Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) made a strong showing at the Philippine ROTC Games National Finals held from August 18-24, 2024, earning two silver medals and one bronze in the Arnis Men’s and Women’s categories.
Leading the ISUFST delegation, sophomore Bachelor of Industrial Technology (BIT) student Mark Vincent Asumbra clinched silver medals in both the Non-Traditional Competition and the Padded Stick Competition (53kg below).
Senior Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) student Rhea Grace Omison added to the medal tally by securing a bronze medal in the Live Stick Competition (63kg below), showcasing the university’s growing prominence in national sports.
Clariesol Belo, the team leader of the ISUFST delegation, commended the athletes for their dedication and spirit.
“Our athletes have shown incredible dedication and spirit, and while we celebrate their achievements today, we are committed to doing even better in the next games. This is just the beginning of more victories to come,” Belo said.
ISUFST President Dr. Nordy Siason, Jr., echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in the team.
“The success of our athletes in the ROTC Games is a testament to their hard work and determination. We are incredibly proud of them for bringing honor to ISUFST and for representing the Visayas region with such excellence,” Dr. Siason said.
In addition to Asumbra and Omison, other ISUFST athletes who bravely represented the university included Roperly Mae Bangero and Japhet Palma in the Arnis Women’s category; Rennier Soberano in the Arnis Men’s category; and Ben Araneta, Ismael Martirez, and James Kenneth Buenacosa in the Taekwondo Men’s division, with Marlie Diopenes competing in the Women’s division.
