Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo–The Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) successfully concluded the second leg of its PR Committee Orientation, Strategic Planning, and Training Workshop on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Conference Hall of the ISUFST Main Campus-Tiwi Site. This session, part of the university’s preparations to host the upcoming Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (RSCUAA) 2024, was attended by 11 student journalists from The Sea Treasure publication of Tiwi and Dumangas campuses, along with three faculty members: Prof. Joanne Alada, Prof. Glysa Marie Regidor, and Instructor John Christian Salarza.
Dr. Herman Lagon, the ISUFST RSCUAA PR Committee Chairperson, facilitated the workshop, continuing his role from the first training session. His interactive sessions emphasized collaborative content creation and the effective use of media to capture the festival’s theme, “One Western Visayas: Promoting Peace, Inclusivity, and Well-Being through Sports.”
Prof. Regidor provided valuable insights on feature writing. At the same time, Instructor Salarza shared his expertise in design layouts, guiding the student participants who will document the events of the RSCUAA 2024 Sports Festival and Conference scheduled for December 15-20. The students, who will be the primary chroniclers of the regional event, gained essential skills to enhance their writing and design techniques in preparation for this significant regional gathering.
This workshop follows the successful initial session at ISUFST’s Dingle Campus, where participants engaged in hands-on training, including mock interviews, on-site sports coverage, and real-time photography exercises. These activities aim to equip student journalists with the skills required to handle the dynamic environment of sports journalism, ensuring they are well-prepared for comprehensive coverage of RSCUAA 2024, ISUFST’s first experience hosting the prestigious event.
The final preparations signal ISUFST’s commitment to a well-documented and memorable RSCUAA 2024, ideally uniting 14 state universities from Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental in various athletic competitions, cultural events, and ceremonial gatherings. (PAMMCO)
