ISUFST revises School Code, manuals in 3-day conference

The Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) is hosting another breakthrough event, the University Code and Manuals Finalization Workshop, this July 1-3, 2024, at the Park Inn by Radisson, Manduriao, Iloilo City.

The workshop aims to review and finalize the institution’s operational, quality, faculty, and student manuals, ensuring they align with the university’s strategic goals and uphold the highest standards of integrity and excellence.

ISUSFT, formerly the Iloilo State College of Fisheries (ISCOF), was converted last year into a university after 65 years of operations.

ISUFST President Dr. Nordy Siason, Jr. opened the workshop with an inspiring message, emphasizing the importance of setting high standards at ISUFST.

“We must lead the way and set the benchmark for excellence at ISUFST. I am delighted to be working with all of you on this important endeavor. I have chosen each of you to work with me for the betterment of our school; I fully trust and support you, and I hope you will continue to trust and support me as well,” Dr. Siason said, highlighting the collaborative spirit and trust he places in the attendees.

Prof. Ed Nuque, the resource speaker and facilitator, echoed Dr. Siason’s sentiments, emphasizing the numerous firsts the university achieves through this initiative.

“We are experiencing many firsts: our new logo, becoming a university, and Dr. Nordy’s inspirational Rappler-worthy graduation speech. Building a strong culture is challenging, but integrity is paramount. Suppose we are truly committed to the guiding principles of our school; we must remain consistent and focus on what truly matters,” Prof. Nuque said, underscoring the importance of integrity and consistency in the university’s operations.

The workshop started July 1 with Dr. Siason delivering his opening message, setting the tone for the event.

The morning session included presentations, a review of the University Code by Dr. Edmer Bernardo, and a workshop on crafting manuals led by Prof. Nuque.

The afternoon was dedicated to the operations manual, quality policy manual, faculty manual, and staff manual, with 54 select administrators and faculty members presenting and participating in the critiquing sessions.

The succeeding days, July 2-3, will likewise focus on the rest of the school manuals with continuous critiquing and recommendations facilitated by Prof. Nuque, the university consultant.

These include manuals in research, extension, resource generation, students (manual and handbook for undergraduate and graduate students), undergraduate research guidelines, thesis/dissertation manual, student local and international internship-OJT, guidance, gender and development, library, general laboratory, data privacy, intellectual property, international affairs and linkages, creative works, learning and assessment center, research ethics, freedom of information, Citizen’s Charter, NSTP, and public affairs, marketing, and media communication.

The University Code and Manuals Finalization Workshop marks a pivotal step in ISUFST’s ongoing efforts to enhance its operational efficiency and uphold its commitment to academic and administrative excellence.

The collaborative efforts of all participants are expected to result in comprehensive and well-structured manuals that will guide the university’s future endeavors. (Herman Lagon/PAMMCO)
