BACOLOD City – A person deprived of liberty (PDL) or detainee who bolted from Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ) in Bago City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday was killed in a shootout with authorities yesterday.
Atty. Jairus Anthony Dogelio, spokesperson of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-6, confirmed the death of Marvin Celeste of Victorias City in a manhunt operation at Barangay Blumentritt, Murcia, Negros Occidental
Celeste’s fellow escapee, Daniel Tamon of Don Salvador Benedicto town, was arrested.
Celeste was facing an illegal possession of firearms charge, while Tamon was charged for murder.
Celeste and Tamon were among the five PDLs, who escaped from the Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ) in Bago City last Tuesday.
Dogelio said that he could not establish yet how the shootout happened between the BJMP personnel and the escapees.
Authorities were able to locate the whereabouts of the escapees through intelligence reports in coordination with the police, Dogelio said.
Dogelio said they also have no idea why the escapees went into hiding in Murcia town.
The manhunt operation is ongoing to recapture three remaining escapees – Francisco Epogon, Danilo Celeste, and Alejandro Montoya.
The BJMP-6 has earlier offered a 10,000 cash reward for the arrest of each escapee.
Tamon is now in the custody of the BJMP tracking team.
Meanwhile, Dogelio said that Superintendent Prizel Arevalo, who was relieved as warden of the NODJ will be moved to the BJMP-6 regional headquarters.
Arevalo is still currently leading the manhunt operation against the three remaining escapees.
