The town of Jamindan in the province of Capiz is celebrating its annual municipal and religious fiesta on January 6-20, 2024.
Dubbed ‘Binuligay Fiesta’, the celebration is in honor of its patron San Sebastian with the theme: “Masadya nga kapiestahan, pa-agi sa pag-ampo ni Sr. San Sebastian kag ma-angkon ang matam-is kag masanag nga pala-abuton sa pag-hugpong sang mga Jamindanganon”.
Jamindan Mayor Mac Artur Valdemar said that several activities have been lined up in order to entertain the visitors, both local and foreign.
The Mayor said that one of the highlights of the affair is the Pangahaw Festival, a manifestation of Jamindanganon’s efforts to preserve and celebrate their culture.
The festival is derived from “Pangahaw,” a ritual done by the Panay Bukidnon Indigenous Peoples Community as a form of thanksgiving to a bountiful harvest, performed before eating the newly-harvested rice for the family’s meal.
Other major activities is the coronation of Binuligay Fiesta Queen 2024 Miss Niña Danica T. Valdemar, daughter of this year’s Hermano y Hermana Mayores, couple Mayor Mac Artur and Donnah Valdemar. The coronation night will be held in the evening of January 18, at Jamindan Gymnasium where celebrity guest Elyson de Dios will entertain the visitors and guests.
Following the Binuligay 2024 Coronation Night, a vibrant festival of talents awaits, where Jamindanganons will unveil their skills and creativity. This year’s highlight is Pasundayag Jamindanganon: “Project Runway” competition, where contestants will dazzle with modeling prowess, and designers will showcase their craftsmanship by creating costumes crafted from indigenous materials. This event will be graced by a celebrity guest, Ms. Lyca Gairanod, the Voice Kids Philippines, 1st Season Grand Champion and others. The night will end with a bright and beautiful Fireworks display sponsored by the LGU Jamindan.
Meanwhile, a concelebrated mass will be offered by the main celebrant Capiz Archbishop His Excellency Most Rev. Victor Bendico DD, during the culminating day on January 20, at San Sebastian Church.
This will be followed in the evening by JACEMMS Night back to back with the 3ID and Mirage Bands at the gymnasium.
A 2nd class municipality, Jamindan has a population of 38,670 people, according to 2020 census. It is located on the western part of the province and is 48 kilometers from Roxas City.
It got its name from a tree called “hamindang,” which grew abundantly along river banks during early days in history.
