BACOLOD CITY – A 32-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was stabbed to death by her live-in partner in Barangay Canlandog, Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday, reportedly due to jealousy.
Police Major Sherwin Fernandez, the town’s police chief, said the couple initially argued on Tuesday night, which escalated when the 39-year-old suspect went berserk and destroyed some appliances in their home.
The following day, the couple had another altercation, which led to violence.
The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim with a screwdriver, prompting the victim’s 58-year-old mother to intervene in an attempt to pacify them.
However, the suspect also reportedly stabbed the mother, wounding her right leg.
The OFW sustained multiple stab wounds and was declared dead at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City.
Fernandez said the suspect fled and hid in a sugarcane field but was later arrested with the help of the community and the families involved.
Police recovered the weapon used in the crime.
According to the police investigation, the couple frequently argued due to the suspect’s jealousy. Fernandez added that the victim was scheduled to return abroad next week.
The suspect will face murder charges, the police chief confirmed.
