ROXAS CITY, CAPIZ—Police are looking into jealousy as the possible motive behind the brutal killing of a senior citizen in Barangay Mainit, Cuartero, Capiz, with the victim’s paramour being considered a person of interest.

Captain Alladin Talaban, Cuartero police chief, said it was “public knowledge” in their community that the victim had been in a relationship with a man for two years.

Reports indicated that the victim wanted to work in Roxas City, but her live-in partner opposed the idea because her legal husband resided in the city.

The victim had reportedly been separated from her husband for 18 years.

The 60-year-old woman, identified only as alias Lyn, was found dead on the night of Jan. 1 in her home in Barangay Mainit.

A police investigation showed that an unidentified suspect entered the victim’s house around 9:50 p.m.

Neighbors heard her shouting for help.

When they responded, they found her lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.

She was rushed by the Cuartero Emergency Response Unit to Sen. Gerry Roxas Memorial District Hospital in Dao, Capiz, but was declared dead on arrival at around 11:30 p.m.

Police are continuing their investigation and have launched a hot pursuit operation to track down the suspect.
