A jeepney driver allegedly gunned down his fellow driver evening of February 2, 2021 in Jaro, Iloilo City.
Lieutenant Colonel Reuben Siason, Jaro police chief, said the incident happened at the house of Joel Marinog at Zone 5, Barangay Tagbac, Jaro, Iloilo City.
Marinog, who hails from Negros Occidental, invited the victim, Arnaldo Sequita and two other friends for a drink yesterday since it was his birthday.
PUJ drivers who knew Marinog and Sequita, 56, of Barangay Quintin Sala, Jaro, claimed that the two were best friends and godfathers to each other’s children.
Siason said their two companions left afternoon of the said date. It remains unclear what prompted Marinog to shoot Sequita.
Marinog’s neighbor claimed to have heard a gun fire and later saw the victim slumped on the pavement. The neighbor immediately called for police assistance.
Responding cops brought the victim to the hospital where he died.
Witnesses claimed they also saw the suspect hurriedly leaving the house and speeding away onboard his motorcycle.
Reports said Marinog even fell at a gasoline station in the area but immediate got up and drove off.
“We surmised that it could have been a misunderstanding because both were drunk,” Siason said.
Marinog remains at large.
