So the rumors were true.
One of the best setters in the Philippines will be transferring overseas after accepting a once-in-a-lifetime offer from the Japan Volleyball League.
Congratulations, Jia Morado-De Guzman!
After winning the Best Setter award in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) eight times since turning professional, the former Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) superstar is ready to unfold another chapter of her colorful career and is now the newest member of the Denso Airybees currently competing in the Division I of the Japan V. League.
The development was confirmed by the Denso management last September 9, 2023, when they announced the arrival of De Guzman to their franchise.
Denso also stated that the Filipina orchestrator already agreed to a deal and will be debuting with the team on October 28, 2023, against the NEC Red Rockets.
De Guzman will look to boost Denso’s bid for a championship title after the squad finished sixth place last playing season with a win-loss record of 14-19.
The PVL champion with the Creamline Cool Smashers will play alongside two of the most talented setters in Japan, Ayane Furuichi and Yuka Yamaguchi.
“I am really looking forward to contribute everything I can to the Denso Airybees. Alongside the coaches, staff, and my teammates, we will do our very best to train, fight, and win this season!” said De Guzman.
De Guzman will be joining Jaja Santiago as the only two Filipina imports competing in Japan. Meanwhile, Iris Tolenada and MJ Phillips are in South Korea, also to play as Asian imports.
The Cool Smashers also expressed their support for De Guzman after posting a heartfelt message on their social media accounts.
“We are always proud of you, and will always have your back, Ate Jia! Looking forward to seeing your Pambansang Good Vibe moves on the court!” stated Creamline.
