The quest for being the undisputed king of the heavyweight division is on.
Anthony Joshua, the current World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Organization (WBO), and International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight champion will be squaring off with the World Boxing Council (WBC) belt-holder Tyson Fury after both camps reportedly agreed for the match-up.
Although no contracts have been signed and finalized for the bout, Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has been in talks with Fury’s camp for almost a month and said that both sides have agreed with the terms for the mega-fight.
“We’re in a good place. It’s fair to say that, in principle, both guys have agreed to that fight. Two fights. There’s a lot to overcome in the meantime. We’re moving in the right direction. I’m confident that both guys have given their blessings for the fight to go ahead,” said Hearn.
Hearn added that the bout can push through in the summertime of 2021 after Joshua’s showdown with Bulgaria’s Kubrat Pulev and Fury’s rematch against Deontay Wilder.
Fury further fueled the news by posting on his Instagram account: “The biggest fight in British boxing history has just been agreed. Two-fight deal. Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua next year.”
