JRMP II contractor suspends work due to COVID-19 cases

The Temporary Facilities Yard (Temfacil) of Daewoo E&C (DEC) in Barangay Agcalaga, Calinog is temporarily closed in keeping with the Executive Order of the Municipal Government of Calinog, Iloilo.

Daewoo is the contractor of the ongoing P11.2-billion Jalaur Multipurpose Project (JRMP) II or megadam project.

EO No. 65 or (An Order Suspending the Operation of the Daewoo E&C Compound and all Operations Accessing Manpower therein at Brgy. Agcalaga, Calinog effective immediately until September 23, 2021 or until further Notice due to Workplace Local Transmission of COVID-19) covers all operations within and from the Temfacil of Daewoo E&C, thus affecting the activities in the DEC Office, Batching Plant, Jalaur High Dam and Jalaur Afterbay Dam all in the same barangay.

However, other offices and worksites of Daewoo continue to operate if workers are not residing or holding office in the Temfacil and are not identified as close contacts to the confirmed COVID-19 patients.

The EO was signed by Mayor Francisco Calvo on September 9, 2021 but took effect on September 11 and will remain effective until September 23 or until further notice.

Cases of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) within the Temfacil as of September 10, 2021, reached a total of 37 patients – 35 Filipinos and 2 Koreans.

Most of the patients manifested mild COVID-19 symptoms and are now on full isolation.

Meanwhile, the Project Management Office (PMO) of Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project Stage II (JRMP II) welcomed the EO and expressed its commitment on the full implementation of the order.

In fact, Engr. Jonel Borres, Acting Project Manager of JRMP II, already ordered the contractor to fully subscribe and comply with the protocols set by MLGU-Calinog while the EO is in effect.

He likewise reminded the contractor to religiously and strictly enforce COVID-19 protocols instituted by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to prevent subsequent local transmissions at the workplace. (Flordalie P. Padillo)
