BACOLOD CITY — Police are searching for a man who stabbed a barangay official in a reclamation area of Barangay 1, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, last Tuesday.
Police Major Clifford Batadhay, the town police chief, said the 35-year-old village councilor of Barangay 4 was drinking with his cousin at the fish wharf when the suspect arrived and confronted him.
The suspect, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, punched the victim and then stabbed him.
The victim suffered a stab wound to the chest. He was rushed to Hinigaran Medical Clinic by his cousin and later discharged, according to Batadhay.
Batadhay stated that the motive behind the incident is still under investigation. Police are trying to determine if the suspect and victim had a previous misunderstanding.
They are also awaiting the victim’s decision on whether to press charges against the suspect.
