A village official and a tanod (watchman) were arrested in simultaneous firearm raids morning of Oct 6, 2020 in Cabatuan, Iloilo.

Police identified the suspects as Barangay Kagawad Canuto Alcallaga, Jr., 48, and Edwin Jomelogo, a barangay tanod, both residents of Barangay Manguna, Cabatuan.

Major Niño Leonard Amar, Cabatuan police chief, said they moved for the duo’s arrest following reports of indiscriminate firing in the area.

“Grupo ni sila nga duha. Usually, they were in tandem when they illegally discharge their guns,” Amar said.

Members of Cabatuan Police Station and the Iloilo Police Provincial Office-Special Operations Group searched Alcallaga’s house on the strength of Search Warrant No. 20-07 issued by Executive Judge Gemalyn Faunillo-Tarol of the Regional Trial Court Branch 76 in Janiuay, Iloilo.

Recovered from Alcallaga was a caliber .22 revolver loaded with six ammunition.

Judge Tarol also issued Search Warrant No. 20-08 that allowed policemen to search Jomelogo’s abode.

A homemade 12-gauge shotgun, a caliber .38 recover, a 40mm HE M406 cartridge, and several ammunitions were taken from the tanod’s possession.

The suspects are now detained at the lock-up cell of Cabatuan Police Station while a case for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) will be filed against them.
