BACOLOD City – A man who was busted in a drug sting operation along with a barangay official in Barangay Alijis here last Tuesday, was released from police custody after he posted bail the following day.
Police Lieutenant Joven Mogato, head of City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), said yesterday that 39-year-old Freely Boy Aldas was charged for illegal possession of dangerous drugs last Wednesday, and posted a bail of P200,000 for his provisional liberty later that day.
Aldas was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Alijis on Nov. 8, along with Barangay Alijis Kagawad Abby Araneta, following the seizure of P1.3 million worth of suspected shabu.
Aldas reportedly served as Araneta’s driver during the transaction, thus he knew about the barangay official’s illegal activity, according to Mogato.
Mogato said that Araneta was charged for selling of dangerous drugs, which is non-bailable, and illegal possession of dangerous drugs. She refused to comment on the allegation against her.
Both suspects did not ask to undergo a preliminary investigation. Thus, they will have to wait for the court’s schedule on their arraignment and pre-trial, he added.
Mogato said that they are waiting for the commitment order of Araneta to transfer her to the custody of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
