BACOLOD CITY – The Office of Civil Defense-Western Visayas (OCD-WV) reported progress in the construction of shelters for internally displaced individuals in two designated sites.

In a social media update, the OCD-WV said development at the Payag Sang Kapag-on Village in Barangay Napoles, Bago City, is advancing as temporary housing for evacuees affected by the Kanlaon volcanic eruption.

So far, 33 out of 50 bahay kubo units have been set up, with underground electrical cables, LED lights, switches, and outlets already installed.

Septic tanks for portable toilets are also being put in place to ensure proper sanitation, improving living conditions for evacuees.

The village is a Bago City initiative aimed at assisting its residents displaced by the Kanlaon eruption, the OCD-WV said.

Meanwhile, the Tent City in Himamaylan is steadily progressing, with 40 out of the planned 395 family tents already set up, according to the OCD.

These tents, provided by the OCD Central Office, will serve as temporary shelters for evacuees. The site is being developed to ensure it meets the basic needs of the displaced families.

Ongoing work includes the installation of plumbing, water, and sanitation facilities to provide safe and hygienic living conditions. Once completed, the site will be ready to accommodate evacuees
