KonsultaMD, a leading telehealth provider in the Philippines, has launched a new initiative to provide inclusive healthcare services for the LGBTQ+ community.
The initiative is made possible through a partnership with the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) Project.
KonsultaMD is now the first telehealth platform in the country to offer Inclusive Care, with doctors trained specifically on issues related to Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression, and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC), along with gender sensitivity and motivational counseling.
This aims to provide the LGBTQ+ community with safe, respectful, and knowledgeable healthcare services, including those crucial for sexual health.
“KonsultaMD is dedicated to breaking down barriers in healthcare access for the LGBTQ+ community,” said Beia Latay, CEO of KonsultaMD.
“Our partnership with PEPFAR-USAID’s EpiC Project allows us to offer specialized care that respects and understands the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community. We believe that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, and this initiative is an important step towards achieving that goal.”
The partnership addresses common obstacles that the LGBTQ+ community faces in healthcare, such as stigma, discrimination, confidentiality concerns, and limited access to services.
By overcoming these barriers, KonsultaMD encourages the LGBTQ+ community to prioritize their health and seek care without fear of judgment or discrimination, which is crucial for preventing and managing common health issues within the community.
To access these services, users can download the KonsultaMD app, register, and select the “Inclusive Care” icon on the homepage. This feature allows users to connect with trained doctors either on-demand or by scheduling a consultation for a later time.
KonsultaMD’s collaboration with PEPFAR-USAID’s EpiC Project marks a significant advancement in providing equitable healthcare access in the Philippines, ensuring that LGBTQ+ individuals receive the compassionate and expert care they deserve.
