A motorcycle-related incident claimed the life of another rider afternoon of Jan 30, 2022 in Estancia, Iloilo.

Ma. Eugenia Baño, 32, of Purok 7, Brgy. Cano-an, Estancia, Iloilo, died while undergoing treatment at Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Iloilo City.

Lieutenant Joebert Amado, Estancia police chief, said Baño came from a market to buy vegetables for their lunch.

The victim, who drove a motorcycle, was navigating a blind curve at Barangay Lonoy when a Toyota Corolla sedan (license plate PPG 427) hit her.

Amado said the sedan’s driver, Renante Canizo, 52, a resident of Botongon village, Estancia, encroached a portion of the opposite lane, where Baño’s motorcycle was running.

The woman was thrown off her motorcycle. She suffered injuries on her leg, hip, and head.

Amado said Baño was not wearing a crash helmet when the incident happened.

On the other hand, Canizo may have been drunk at the time of the mishap.

Baño was rushed to Jesus Colmenares District Hospital in Balasan and was later referred to WVMC in Iloilo City where she later died.

Canizo is now in police custody and would be charged for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
