Malumpati Eco-run was initially conceptualized by Atty. Isagani Dionela as a triathlon sporting event in Pandan, Antique which was inspired by the 21km Nature’s Discovery Trail Run he joined in Tanay, Rizal, in 2012.
Due to limited resources, a running event was hatched, backed by his high school batch, the Pandan Bay Institute (PBI) Batch 2000. The Local Government Unit of Pandan (LGU) and the local community supported the event.
The first runners were mainly the members of their families, schoolmates and classmates, teachers and friends. Three runs since, it has ventured to include an ultramarathon category that gained traction not only from runners of Panay and Negros Islands but also from Luzon.
This year’s Eco-run 3.0 is presented by the PBI Batch 2000 and the LGU of Pandan, Antique headed by Mayor Tomas Estoperez with major support from Senator Loren Legarda, Congressman AA Legarda, SEMCORE Business Center, Dionela Law Office, Ivo’s Minimart, Sweet Freya Creative Studio and the Daily Guardian.
The running event was participated by more than 200 runners and is now one of the mainstay events of Pandan’s Annual Tugbong Festival held every 25th of April.
