A cow that suddenly crossed the road led to a road incident involving a couple in Sibalom, Antique early evening of August 2, 2021.
The victims were identified as Ana Patricia Dioso, 26, a resident of District III, Sibalom and her boyfriend John Paul Sorongon, 28, a native of Bacolod City but temporarily residing at Dioso’s place in District III.
Sorongon was driving a motorcycle with Dioso as backrider when the incident happened 7:05 p.m. Monday at Crossing Aldea, District III.
Staff Sergeant Jaysser Vagilidad, Sibalom PNP traffic investigator, said Dioso died while undergoing treatment.
Sorongon survived the incident with minor injuries.
While Sorongon claimed that they brought crash helmets, Vagilidad theorized that the woman forgot to wear her helmet.
“The attending physician claimed she suffered head injuries,” the investigator said.
While there were streetlights in the area, these were not enough to illuminate the crash area.
Vagilidad said the couple may have been surprised after a cow suddenly crossed the street.
Witnesses claimed the driver appeared to be speeding.
The couple was thrown off their motorcycle due to the impact.
They were taken to Ramon Maza Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Sibalom where Dioso died.
The cow also died from head wounds.
