The Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) campaign of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 has already reached a total of 20,701 students from 31 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the region.
With “LEGS,” the agency intends to widen its campaign on preparing the future workers on work ethics, culture of productive and decent work, and other dynamics in the workplace.
Per DOLE 6 news release, a series of seminars were held through the labor department’s field offices, which tackled several topics such as pre-employment and post-employment requirements, labor standard, employment coaching, Gender and Development (GAD), and the salient features of the Republic Act 11261 or the First Time Job Seekers Assistance Act.
DOLE 6 regional director lawyer Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr. said that the LEGS will prepare all the graduating students in the world of work.
“Giving the students sufficient knowledge about the DOLE’s services on employment facilitation, workers’ protection, and social security for employees empowers them to become productive and protected workers who are aware not only of their rights but also of their responsibilities,” noted Rodriguez.
Career guidance and coaching were further carried out to let the students understand the different industries and the needed skills, including the roles and responsibilities in applying for work and in pursuing a certain profession. (PIA-6)
