A lightning strike claimed the life of a fisherman from Hamtic, Antique, on the morning of June 3.
The victim, Leonard Minguez Agustin, was fishing in the waters off Barangay Lapaz Tubog, Hamtic, when he was struck by lightning.
According to reports, Agustin and three other fishermen set sail on their respective banca boats around 3 a.m. Monday.
While his companions returned to shore, Agustin chose to stay.
A heavy downpour, accompanied by thunder and lightning, preceded the discovery of his body.
Other fishermen, including Agustin’s brother, later found his capsized banca with his body still on the outrigger.
Agustin’s family does not suspect foul play. The victim’s body and face showed burn injuries, and parts of his banca were destroyed.
The Hamtic Municipal Police Station is coordinating with the Philippine Coast Guard as the incident occurred at sea.
