One hundred new local cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were reported by the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-WV CHD) on Aug 12, 2020, pushing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the region to 2,409.
The latest figure also increased the number of active COVID-19 cases in the region to 1,253.
A total of 103 cases were reported on Aug 12. Apart from the 100 local cases, the two others were a Locally-Stranded Individual (LSI) and an Authorized Person Outside of Residence (APOR).
One case which was also reported in the region was an APOR from Quezon City, thus it was tagged to the National Capital Region.
On Tuesday, the DOH reported the highest number of new cases in a day at 178, including 157 local cases.
Iloilo City leads the list with 47 new cases, Iloilo province with 23, Negros Occidental with 22, Bacolod City with seven, and Guimaras province with three.
Iloilo City saw a surge in new cases following local infections at the Iloilo Fishing Port Complex and a call center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
According to the city’s COVID-19 task force, the fishing port complex now has a total of 167 cases while BPO firm IQor has 149 cases so far.
No new cases were reported in Aklan, Antique, and Capiz provinces.
Ninety-eight of the new cases are asymptomatic, while four have Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and one Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).
Fifty-one new recoveries were also reported, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,122.
One COVID-19 death was recorded, with case information still to be verified by the DOH-WV CHD as of this writing.
The total fatality in the region is now 34.
LOCAL CASES
DOH data indicated that as of Wednesday, 1,003 local cases have been detected in the region.
Iloilo City has the most number of local cases with 423 (324 active cases, 89 recoveries and 10 deaths).
Bacolod City tallied 220 total confirmed cases (165 active cases, 46 recoveries, and nine deaths).
Iloilo Province has 195 total confirmed cases (109 active cases, 78 recoveries and eight deaths).
Negros Occidental recorded 119 total confirmed cases (81 active cases, 36 recoveries, and two deaths).
Antique has 17 confirmed cases (two active cases and 15 recoveries).
Guimaras province has 11 confirmed cases (10 active cases and one recovery).
Capiz with 10 confirmed cases (three active cases, five recoveries, and two deaths).
Aklan province has the lowest number of local cases in the region with eight (one active case, with six recoveries, and one death).
But repatriates (LSI, ROF, and APOR) still account for the bulk of COVID-19 cases in the region with 1,406 cases.
