Local COVID cases surge for third straight day

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Western Visayas totaled 2,519 as of Aug 13, 2020 after the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-WV CHD) reported 110 new cases of the disease.

Local cases still account for majority of the new cases for the third straight day, with 99 cases reported on Thursday.

Iloilo City still tops the list of the most number of new local cases with 60, followed by Iloilo province with 26, Bacolod City with 15, Negros Occidental with 6, Capiz province with 2, and 1 in Antique province.

Aklan and Guimaras provinces did not list new local cases on August 13.

The DOH-WV CHD also noted concentrations based on reported venues within the region with confirmed cases.

Among the 99 new local cases, Iloilo City-based business process outsourcing firm iQor listed 20 new cases, Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City with 5, the Adventist Medical Center in Bacolod City with 3, the Iloilo City Fishport Complex with 2, and 1 new case at the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

The remaining cases are 8 Locally-Stranded Individuals (LSI) and 3 Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF).

As to severity, 97 of the new cases are asymptomatic, while 11 have Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and 2 have Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

The total number of active cases based on the DOH’s data as of August 13 is at 1,320.

Forty-three new recoveries were also reported, increasing the total number of recoveries to 1,165.

Total number of deaths remain at 34 after no new deaths were reported in the region.
