Lopez Family Plans Rockwell Center in Iloilo

The Lopez family, one of the Philippines’ most prominent business dynasties, has announced plans to establish a Rockwell Center along Diversion Road in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

The announcement was made by Rito “Judgee” Lopez-Peña, chairperson of the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. (IFFI), during the Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan event at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand on Saturday, January 25.

“The number one thing we are studying is constructing a Rockwell Center. Maybe it will be on a property along Diversion Road,” Judgee said.

He reiterated the plan during the Dinagyang Tribes Competition the following day.

Beaver Lopez, vice president of Rockwell Land and Judgee’s second cousin, was also present at the grandstand during the announcement.

Judgee emphasized that the plan has the support of key family members, including Mercedes “Cedie” Lopez-Vargas, head of the Lopez Group Foundation.

Since becoming IFFI chairperson six years ago, Judgee said he has worked to encourage the Lopez family to return to Iloilo and invest in the city to support its economic growth.

“The Lopezes have been away for many years, but this time, we will gradually come back to Iloilo because our forefathers are here. It’s only us that’s left,” he said.

The Lopez family began developing the Rockwell Center in 1995 on a 15.5-hectare site formerly occupied by a thermal power plant operated by Manila Electric Railroad and Light Company, which they owned. The project was led by Ambassador Manolo Lopez and Rockwell Land’s president and CEO, Nestor “Tong” Padilla.

Rockwell Land is also planning expansions in other parts of the country, including a 100-hectare estate in Bulacan, an 85-hectare beach community in Batangas, and a new project in Cebu called IPI Center by Rockwell.
