The Land Transportation Office–Western Visayas (LTO-6) has released 4,534 new license plates to Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) members across the region to address a backlog and strengthen road safety compliance.
According to the LTO-6 New Registration Unit, distribution began on April 2 through 18 district offices and four extension offices.
The Kalibo District Office, headed by Engr. Marlon Velez, issued the highest number with 1,469 plates.
The San Carlos District Office, under Robbie Andutan, followed with 835, while Cadiz City and Dumalag offices released 596 and 266 plates, respectively.
LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II and Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu said the campaign is crucial in resolving long-standing delays in plate issuance.
“Ensuring that every tricycle on the road is properly registered and plated is vital for both regulatory compliance and public safety,” Geduspan said.
Geduspan emphasized the safety aspect, citing national statistics showing around 12,000 annual road-related deaths, including more than 500 fatalities and 3,000 injuries in Western Visayas.
“We are intensifying enforcement and expanding road safety education throughout the region,” he added.
The program is backed by the LTO Central Office following orders from Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II and Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
The directive aims to streamline operations, eliminate delays, and improve public service access.
Local government units were asked to submit TODA members’ official receipts and certificates of registration to ensure accurate plate assignment and timely reconciliation.
