Undeterred by heavy rain Tuesday evening, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 6 continued its “Night Shift Law Enforcement Operation,” deploying uniformed officers and deputized personnel across Iloilo City’s busiest roads.
During the three-hour operation, teams set up mobile checkpoints and conducted roving patrols to enforce Republic Act 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code), Republic Act 8750 (Seat Belt Use Act), and other special laws.
A total of 226 citations were issued, mostly for expired driver’s licenses, unregistered vehicles, and seat belt violations.
Several unregistered motorcycles were also impounded on the spot.
Motorists were given the option to pay fines or face administrative proceedings.
The operation is part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s nationwide campaign for stricter transport law enforcement, supported by LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II and Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II and Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu oversaw the operation, providing logistical support and ensuring smooth coordination among teams.
“Rain or shine, our mandate remains the same—to deter unsafe driving and protect lives,” said LTO-6 Law Enforcement Section Chief Relin Reyes, as officers processed violators in rain gear.
Reyes added that nighttime often sees a rise in reckless driving, making consistent enforcement vital.
The LTO warned that similar rain-or-shine operations will continue in the coming weeks, especially in high-traffic areas such as General Luna Street and Benigno Aquino Avenue.
Authorities urged motorists and passengers to follow traffic laws to avoid penalties and help keep Iloilo’s roads safe.
