The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 6 confirmed that it issued Show Cause Orders to the registered owners of vehicles illegally parked along the national highway at Coastal Road and Loboc Port Area, Lapuz, Iloilo City.
Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II, LTO-6 OIC regional director, said the issuance followed inspections conducted by the agency’s Intelligence and Investigation Unit on July 18 and 24.
“There were no drivers present for the five vehicles we caught illegally parking by the roadside,” he said. The letters were mailed on July 25 since the registered owners are not from Iloilo.
In full support of the efforts of the Iloilo City Traffic Management Unit and the traffic programs of Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, the LTO-6’s Regional Law Enforcement Service conducted roadside inspections on July 18 and 24.
In a press statement, LTO-6 noted that several vehicles were found parked or abandoned in a manner that posed significant road hazards.
“These obstructions not only impeded the flow of traffic but also presented serious safety risks to motorists and pedestrians alike,” it added.
The identified vehicles have been placed under alarm, and an in-depth investigation is underway to determine the extent of the violations and impose appropriate penalties.
Geduspan also dispatched patrol teams for monitoring. It noted non-compliance with parking regulations among heavy vehicles.
Several vehicles were observed illegally parked along the highways, exacerbating road congestion and safety issues.
Overall, they apprehended eight drivers: seven for obstruction and one for illegal parking.
Geduspan emphasized that this enforcement action addresses current violations and serves as a proactive approach to deter future non-compliance.
“We are committed to maintaining order and safety on our roads. This should serve as a stern warning to all vehicle owners and drivers that we will not tolerate any form of traffic law violations,” he said.
The agency also urged the public to comply with all traffic regulations and to park only in designated areas to avoid penalties and ensure the safety of all road users.
Relatedly, the Iloilo City Traffic and Transportation Management Office (ICTTMO) announced it will implement Regulation Ordinance No. 2014-191 as amended by RO 2015-049.
The ordinance incorporates the use of wheel clamps to immobilize motor vehicles in non-parking zones.
The ICTTMO personnel will undergo training and practical demonstrations on attaching and removing wheel clamps.
The prescribed fees for removing the clamps are P1,000 for light vehicles, P1,200 for medium vehicles, and P1,500 for heavy vehicles.
Unauthorized removal will result in a P5,000 fine.
