The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Western Visayas has directed all accredited motorcycle and vehicle dealers in the region to stop issuing waiver letters that allow buyers to operate unregistered vehicles.
Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II and Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu issued a memorandum emphasizing that this practice misleads buyers and violates existing regulations.
The LTO Region-6 warned that operating newly purchased vehicles without proper registration and documentation exposes buyers to legal liabilities, safety risks, and potential issues with law enforcement.
“This practice not only undermines road safety but also violates the spirit of accountability and compliance with vehicle registration laws,” Geduspan stated in the memo.
He further stressed that all vehicle sales must comply with registration requirements before the vehicles are released to buyers.
By eliminating the use of waiver letters, the LTO-6 aims to enhance public safety and address legal and safety concerns on the roads.
Dealers have been urged to immediately cease issuing such waivers and ensure full compliance with registration standards.
The LTO Region-6 expressed optimism that all accredited dealers in Western Visayas will cooperate in maintaining legal compliance and prioritizing road safety.
