BACOLOD City – Tragedy struck a family after a woman and her daughter drowned to their deaths in the coastal village of Tiglawigan, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental Wednesday.

Police identified one of the victims as Melanie Alo, 39, and her 11-year-old daughter, whose name was withheld.

Investigation indicated that Alo went to the sea along with her two daughters and two nephews to swim around 8 a.m. when the water level suddenly rose.

Alo decided to take the children to the shore but she was only able to save her two nephews and a daughter.

She returned to the sea to rescue her 11-year-old daughter but failed as they were both dragged by the strong sea current.

The three survivors went home to ask help from their neighbors, but it was already too late.

The two victims were brought to Cadiz City Emergency Clinic but were declared dead on arrival.
