The Magnolia Hotshots Chicken Timplados already kicked off its PBA off-season acquisitions after tapping the services of energetic forward Zavier Lucero from the NorthPort Batang Pier.

To make the trade deal possible, the Magnolia franchise had to send their veteran floor general Jio Jalalon to NorthPort together with power forward Abu Tratter.

Lucero, the former fifth overall pick during the 2023 PBA Rookie Draft, immediately made an impact during his first year with the Batang Pier and helped them to a near playoff qualification.

Known for his solid offensive rebounding and relentlessness in attacking the post, Lucero will provide a deeper frontcourt talent for the title-seeking Magnolia squad.

Already in a dry spell after losing consecutive PBA post-season stints, the Chicken Timplados are looking for a change in scenery and will target more help for superstars Paul Lee and Mark Barroca.

Lucero had an impressive PBA All-Filipino campaign for the Batang Pier after averaging 12.08 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.

On the other hand, it will be a painful departure for Jalalon after spending almost his entire career with the Magnolia franchise.

The lightning-quick point guard was selected by the organization during the 2016 PBA Rookie Draft and was already looking to lock up his future with Magnolia.

However, the recent turn of events spoiled Jalalon’s plans and will be wearing the orange and white jersey of NorthPort when the upcoming PBA conference kicks off this August.

Jalalon already found his stride playing for Magnolia and steered them to several huge wins in his eight-year tenure with the franchise, playing a vital role during their 2018 PBA Governor’s Cup championship campaign.
