Magpusao Named UP Visayas SoTech Dean

Dr. Johannes Magpusao has been appointed as the new dean of the University of the Philippines Visayas School of Technology (UPV SoTech).

The UP Board of Regents approved her appointment during its 1395th meeting on Nov. 28, 2024.

Dr. Magpusao will serve as SoTech dean from Nov. 28, 2024, to Nov. 27, 2027.

She previously served as acting dean of SoTech from August 2024 until her official appointment.

From 2022 to 2024, she was the program coordinator for the Bachelor of Science in Food Technology and Master of Science in Food Science programs at the school.

Dr. Magpusao has been part of the UPV SoTech faculty since 2011.

Before joining UPV SoTech, she held quality assurance positions at Harvest Wheat Baked Foods Inc. and SVG Food Corporation.

Her vision is for SoTech to become the leading institution in the region for food, engineering, and environmental studies, emphasizing academic excellence, collaborative research, and extension work for nation-building.

Her primary goals as dean include achieving academic excellence, fostering relevant research and extension programs, and creating an enabling environment for students and staff.

Dr. Magpusao earned her Ph.D. in Food Science from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 2022.

She completed her master’s degree in Food Technology, specializing in Postharvest and Food Preservation Engineering, at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and Ghent University in Belgium in 2014.

Dr. Magpusao graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Food Technology from UPV in 2006. (Written by Carlson Alelis, IPO)
