The newest participating club in the Philippines Football League (PFL) made it clear that they will not be paying salaries to their players.
Owner and founder Anton Del Rosario revealed that all their players will be playing for free, adding that they are still looking for sustainability as a young and emerging team.
“I look at this as an opportunity for all of us. Everybody who is playing for Maharlika FC are playing for free. We are looking for sustainability so we are looking at the future of the club,” said Del Rosario.
The former Azkals member also revealed that it has always been their vision to play for the sport with passion and not for money.
“I didn’t want to come out and offer wages that I couldn’t afford. I made it clear. Anybody part of it is here for the love and passion of the sport. That means a lot to me because it shows that they are here more than just getting paid. It shows that they care about the sport and they want to do something,” Del Rosario explained.
After the PFL and the PFF ordered for Global FC’s suspension, Del Rosario and his group immediately put on the work to get their name on the list to participate in the upcoming PFL season.
Del Rosario added that one of the main reasons that pushed him into participating is to let his 7-a-side players get the taste of the field after a long lay-off amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of now, Del Rosario and his team are happy that they were able to process all the needed documents for their PFL inclusion and are looking forward to when the season officially kicks-off.
