His plan was devoid of any intention to physically harm someone, much more kill a friend.
But a drinking spree that ended in gun “show off” led to the death of a 32-year old man in Banga, Aklan.
The victim, Leonida Tordesillas, who was an auto mechanic, died after his friend’s gun accidentally went off.
Staff Sergeant Danill Dalida, Banga police investigator, said the incident happened around 11 pm of Oct 27, 2020 at the house of suspect R-Aie Gomez of Barangay Lapnag, Banga.
Tordesillas, Gomez, and four other friends went binge drinking like they normally do.
Gomez then drew his caliber .45 pistol to show to his friend.
He allegedly bought the gun from a friend in Romblon while he was still working in Boracay Island.
Dalida said the suspect took out the magazine and cocked the pistol to check if it was loaded. But he accidentally pulled the trigger, and the gun went off.
The bullet hit Tordesillas’s left eye.
They immediately rushed the victim to the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital (DRSTMH) in Kalibo town, but he was declared dead on arrival.
Gomez voluntarily surrendered to police authorities, along with his caliber .45 pistol.
But as of Wednesday, Dalida said the victim’s family already signed an affidavit of non-interest to file a charge.
“They claimed that the suspect and victim were like brothers. They understand that it was just an accident,” he said.
Gomez is still detained.
