Trigger warning: Suicide

A 47-year-old man allegedly took his own life out of depression in Pavia, Iloilo.

James (not his real name), a resident of Barangay Balabag, Sta. Barbara town, was lifeless afternoon of June 20, 2022 near a creek in Deca Homes Subdivision in Barangay Jibao-an.

Major Rolando Araño, Pavia police chief, said that the victim was doing maintenance works at the said village before his death.

A certain Pastor Castigador, the victim’s brother-in-law, discovered the victim’s body after they began looking for him.

Castigador said his sister, James’ wife, asked him to find the victim after he failed to go home and could not be reached through his mobile phone.

The wife got worried since she noticed the depression her husband was suffering from in the past months.

Araño said James’ depression became apparent after he was accused of stealing at their village.

It was reported that a case was filed against him.

The wife claimed he began to lose weight and appeared to be melancholic most of the time.

While police found no evidence to suggest foul play, an autopsy might still be conducted on his remains.
