Man dead, cousin injured in road mishap

BACOLOD City – A man died while his cousin was wounded after their motorcycle crashed into a truck loaded with sugarcane at the intersection of Circumferential-Alijis Road at Barangay Alijis here early Sunday.

Police Captain Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 7, identified the fatality as Joy Labares, 28, of Isabela town.

Wounded was Paul Riwil Villacapa, 24, of Sipalay City.

Bonilla said the two cousins were reportedly speeding on their way home from a drinking session when they crashed into a truck driven by 33-year-old Marcel Dalimo-os of Barangay Pahanocoy here.

“Bag-o ni abi abot si Villacapa na seaman, nag inom sila siguro duwa,” the station commander added.

Bonilla said Labares, who was driving the motorcycle, hit the gas tank of the truck that was crossing the intersection.

“Nalab-ot niya (Labares) gid ang truck. Papuli na sila tani. May balay sila gina istaran sa Pahanocoy,” he added.

Bonilla said Labares died on the spot, while his cousin is still confined at a hospital.

The truck driver is detained at the police station and will be released depending on the result of their meeting with the families of the two victims, Bonilla said.
