A 24-year-old man did not survive after he was buried in a deep well he was working on morning of May 7, 2021 in Lemery, Iloilo.
Daniel Biana, 24, of Barangay Carmelo, Banate town died after the ground collapsed while he and two other men were excavating a water well at Barangay Nagsulang, Lemery around 9:50 a.m. of Friday.
Captain Edwin Belarmino, Lemery police chief, said the victim’s father personally witnessed the incident.
The father stood as the foreman of a group of eight workers.
Biana and two other men went down the deep well, which has a depth of around 10 feet and 4 meters in diameter.
But since the soil was waterlogged, it eroded and buried Biana.
His two other companions were quick to run and climbed up to safety.
The victim’s father and their companions immediately shoveled and manually dug out the victim.
“They were also careful because of a possible mudslide,” Belarmino said.
It took 30 minutes for them to reach Biana and rushed him to Sara District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The victim’s father told investigators that there was no foul play and that his son’s death was purely an accident.
