BACOLOD City – A drunken man died after he was electrocuted at the house of his cousin at Purok Canito, Barangay Galicia, Ilog, Negros Occidental last Saturday.
The victim was identified as Joebert Varon, 38, of the said village.
Police Captain Thurslie Castillo, Ilog town police chief, said the victim, who came from a drinking session, went to the house of his cousin Andy Varon, 37, to confront the latter about their previous misunderstanding.
However, Andy did not face the victim, which caused the latter to create a commotion outside the suspect’s house.
Andy then reportedly placed a live wire at their front door to prevent the victim from entering his house, Castillo said.
When the victim went closer to the door, he was able to touch the live wire, which caused him to be electrocuted, Castillo said.
The victim was brought to Ilog Municipal Health Center but was declared dead on arrival.
Castillo said that Andy voluntarily surrendered to the police the following day.
He was then released from police custody later that day after the victim’s family refused to press charges against him.
