Man drowns after colliding with friend in river

BACOLOD City – A man died after he drowned when he collided with a friend upon jumping into the Malogo river in Barangay Canlusong, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental last Sunday.

Police identified the victim as Renan Ansiano, 21, of Talisay City.

Captain Markelly Laganipa, deputy chief of E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station, said that a group of friends went swimming in a resort where they also had a drinking session.

Laganipa said the friends later decided to jump together into the river, but one of them and Ansiano collided, causing the latter to lose consciousness.

A lifeguard first rescued Ansiano’s friend as the victim was submerged in the river, Laganipa said. It took several minutes for the victim’s body to be retrieved, he added.

In Kabankalan City, a 60-year-old woman died after she also drowned in a river in Barangay Tan-awan last Saturday.

Based on police investigation, the victim went to the river with her carabao but she failed to go home that day. Her family searched for her until she was later found floating in the river.

The victim was rushed to Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital where she was declared dead.
