A tragic event unfolded in Barangay Acao, Cabatuan, Iloilo on the evening of March 9 when a 63-year-old man was shot in the head and subsequently hacked by his 26-year-old son.
The altercation between Simeon Suria and his son Jespher Suria was reportedly sparked by Simeon’s reprimand of the latter’s habitual drunkenness.
The argument escalated quickly.
Jespher left briefly and returned with a break-type shotgun. He then shot his father in the head, a wound that left Simeon with no chance of survival. In a further brutal act, Jespher used a bolo to hack his father on the right side of his body.
Captain Dionisio Estacio, the Cabatuan police chief, reported that Simeon remained in his room until the police arrived. Jespher did not resist arrest.
The family is still deciding whether to press charges against Jespher, as per Estacio’s statement.
