BACOLOD City – The shooting to death of two sisters at Barangay Taculing here last Friday could be a case of crime of passion, police said.

Police Captain Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 6, identified the fatalities as Imee Decara-Mahilum and her younger sister Inee Jane Decara.

Bonilla said that Mahilum was about to go home, along with her younger sister who fetched her, when the suspect identified as Alvin Lanza confronted her.

Lanza, who was reportedly drunk, was arguing with Mahilum when two gunshots were suddenly heard, Bonilla added.

Lanza, who was armed with a .45 caliber, allegedly shot Mahilum’s face. Decara, who was inside a Toyota Revo, also suffered a lone gunshot wound on her body, he added. Both victims died on the spot.

Lanza then tried to shoot himself but the gun went dud, prompting him to look for a knife in his toolbox and stabbed himself on the chest, he added.

The suspect, who is a mechanic, was taken to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here, where he will undergo surgery.

Police recovered from the scene a .45-caliber pistol, a magazine, two unfired bullets, two empty ammunition shells, and a knife.

Bonilla said Lanza and Mahilum, who were both working at the same shop, were reportedly in a relationship, but police refused to elaborate on the specific motive of the crime upon the family’s request.

Lanza will be charged for double murder, he added.
