MANHUNT operations led to the arrest of the suspect who hacked his drinking companion evening of Oct. 1, 2019 at Bingawan, Iloilo.
Police identified the suspect as Jomarie Castro, a resident of Barangay Malitbog Ilaya, Badiangan town. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon.
Investigation indicated that Castro and Rodel Venzon, 37, also a resident of Malitbog Ilaya village, were drinking when a misunderstanding occurred between them.
It all started out with a joke with Castro asking Venzon if he could borrow his bolo.
Venzon approved the request but he told the suspect to take care because a coffin comes out once the blade is drawn from its scabbard.
The jest allegedly started a verbal tussle until the suspect attack the victim.
Venzon sustained hack injuries on his face and other parts of the victim.
He was declared dead at Calinog District Hospital while the suspect immediately fled after the incident.
