A 25-year-old man was killed, and his 15-year-old nephew was wounded in a knife attack involving three minors early morning of May 19 in Kalibo, Aklan.
Police identified the fatality as alias Mamerto, a native of Makato, Aklan, who was temporarily residing in Barangay Bakhaw Sur, Kalibo.
His nephew, Joross, of Calachuchi, Bayanihan Road, Kalibo, sustained minor injuries.
Reports said the victims had just finished eating at Andok’s along Roxas Avenue in Barangay Poblacion when the incident occurred.
As they waited for the rain to stop, the two stood outside the food outlet.
At the same time, the three suspects were also dining inside the same fast food chain.
It was unclear whether a conflict occurred between the victims and the suspects, identified as alias Albert, 15, of Concepcion Street, Poblacion, Kalibo; and Mark, 17, and Jay-R, 16, both residents of Oyo Torong Street, Barangay Poblacion, Kalibo.
The store’s security guard claimed that two of the suspects approached the victims.
An exchange of words followed before one suspect allegedly pulled out a knife.
The guard said he intervened but only warned the group not to fight inside the establishment.
He told them to leave the premises if they intended to fight.
A commotion broke out when two of the teens brandished knives and chased the victims.
The suspects reportedly ganged up on the cousins, stabbing them in different parts of the body.
An employee of Andok’s called the police for assistance.
Responders from the Kalibo Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) brought the victims to Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital (DRSTMH).
Mamerto was declared dead shortly after arrival.
The suspects were arrested and are currently in police custody.
Authorities said the three teens have prior records of misdemeanor in the area.
