An argument over a fighting cock sparked a squabble between his father and son evening of Nov. 24, 2019 at La Paz, Iloilo City.
The squabble went physical that eventually led to the death of the father, 52-year-old Edwin Guillergan.
Police reports claimed that residents asked for assistance from barangay tanods (village watchmen) because of a commotion at Barangay Nabitasan.
When the tanod arrived, they saw the body of Guillergan slumped on the pavement near their house.
Police Major Mark Evan Salvo, La Paz police chief, said Edwin’s son, 24-year-old Erol, was responsible for his death.
Erol, a pedicab driver, was allegedly drunk when the incident happened.
Investigation showed that father and son almost always figure in arguments.
The latest was when Edwin confronted Erol after their fighting cock settled for a draw during a cockfight.
Edwin could not believe that they lost that he allegedly blamed Erol for the poor condition of the gamefowl.
The confrontation turned into a heated verbal tussle.Shortly later, Erol took a metal pipe and struck his father on the head.
Edwin was brought to St. Paul’s Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Erol, on the other hand, was arrested and is presently detained at the lock-up cell of La Paz Police Station.
