A man who spent years behind bars at the New Bilibid Prison is now back in jail again after he was arrested in a firearm raid in Cabatuan, Iloilo early morning of Oct. 9.
Alain Clarito, 50, was collared after a gun and ammunition were seized from his house at Barangay Bacan, Cabatuan, Iloilo.
Members of the 602nd Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RFMB) 6, together with the Cabatuan Municipal Police Station, searched Clarito’s house by virtue of Search Warrant No. 23-35 for alleged violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
Judge Gemalyn Faunillo-Tarol of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 76, Janiuay, Iloilo issued the warrant on Oct. 5, 2023.
Recovered during the operation were a caliber .38 revolver with five ammunition, two shells of a caliber .38 revolver, and a holster.
Reports indicated that police swooped down on the suspect’s abode after several complaints of indiscriminate firing.
However, Clarito denied that he illegally discharged firearms. He also pointed to his son as the owner of the seized firearm.
Clarito admitted that he was incarcerated for a murder case. Following his release, he claimed that he was trying to start a new life with his family.
In support of his father’s claim, 24-year-old Aldrian Clarito admitted that he owned the seized firearm. He also confessed to being the one who illegally fired a gun.
But his father will still face charges for violation of RA 10591.
