BACOLOD CITY – A man believed to be suffering from mental health issues was rescued by authorities after climbing a 20-foot electrical post in Espinos Village along Circumferential Road, Barangay Taculing, yesterday.

Police Capt. Peter John Ramos, head of Police Station 6, said the man, whose name was withheld, is usually seen gathering scrap materials in the area. He was spotted climbing the post around noon.

Ramos noted that the man initially resisted efforts to bring him down but was not harming himself. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) spent about 30 minutes negotiating with him before he was forcibly brought down.

As part of standard procedure, the man was taken to a hospital for a medical examination before being turned over to his family, Ramos added.

Ramos also mentioned that the man had not eaten breakfast that day, and it was the first time he had committed such an act.

However, the man had a previous record for theft at the station. He survives by collecting scrap materials, according to the station commander.
