Man shot by neighbor in Calinog

A 25-year-old man was shot by his neighbor on the evening of June 29 in Calinog, Iloilo. Jason Copita Capelera, a resident of Barangay Maribong, Lambunao, survived the incident after sustaining pellet wounds on his right arm and the right side of his body.

Reports indicated that the victim was driving his motorcycle when the incident occurred. He was navigating Barangay Tahing, Calinog, around 7:30 p.m. when the suspect, identified as Monè Gallego, waylaid him. The suspect then shot him with a 12-gauge shotgun.

Capelera was immediately rushed to Calinog District Hospital for medical treatment, while the suspect fled the scene.

Major Myles Dieron, Calinog police chief, reported that the 22-year-old Gallego was arrested around 9 p.m. on Saturday at his girlfriend’s house in Barangay Cabudian, Dueñas town.

The victim identified Gallego as his assailant, but Gallego denied involvement in the incident.

Capelera claimed he had no knowledge of what could have triggered the attack. No firearm was recovered from Gallego during his arrest.
